I ask. And I receive.
I asked for a blog to start documenting our journey from land-dwellers to sailors. And Matt got this up and running in no time.
Just so you know… we are VERY early in our pursuit of a life at sea. (i.e. Matt talked me into it recently) We are not at all ready financially, nor nearly experienced enough, but very ready to leave behind the “familiar” for the “unknown” and set out on an adventure. WITH OUR FOUR KIDS!
Six at Sea is the name of our boat. That we don’t own. Yet.
Six = Me + Matt+ Spawns #1- #4
Six also describes my first reaction to living (or being for any period of time) on a boat. SICK at Sea. That would be me. Motion sickness. All the time. I am pretty sure our initital conversations went something like this:
Matt: What do you think about living on a boat and traveling around the world?
Me: I think I would throw up a lot.
Matt: But think about how cool it would be to see the world by boat…
Me: Seriously? You can’t be serious. Have you met me? I would seriously throw up ALL THE TIME.
Matt: Not if we were in a catamaran. They are really stable… not like monohulls.
Me: Whatever. Blurgh…. throwing up. Me. All. The. Time.
Matt: [Look at all of these pretty pictures and how happy these people are and think about how much culture our kids would be able to experience, and how cool it would be to simplify our lives, and how great it would be.]
Me: Okay fine. As long as we can see land the whole time, I’m cool with that.
Matt: Ummm, that’s not possible.
And here we are… where I have obviously agreed to this journey… and we now have a boat name. (Is that the correct order? Get a boat name and then get a boat?) Anyway, we will chronicle our journey… it may be years before it happens, but it will happen.
