I love to plan.  It is pretty much what I do for a living – plan fundraising events and campaigns for a non-profit helping families with children battling cancer.  I love planning. A lot.  I say this because I desperately want to plan our entire trip around the world.  Like dates/ times/ location/ duration/ etc. But the urge to plan is fighting with my goal for the trip – to explore with no schedules or timelines.

I’ve been reading blogs and other’s experiences anchoring in a new place, trying to check in, being told to come back in an hour or tomorrow, or the next day, or trying to fix something and waiting a week or two for a part – ALL OF THIS STRESSES ME OUT.   Matt keeps trying to convince me that it won’t stress me out when we are on the boat because we won’t have the current schedule stresses we have now (soccer, school activities, work events, family activities, birthday parties, etc.)  – we won’t care if we have to stay in paradise for an extra week. Ah, got it. Maybe.

  1. Planning and cruising cannot be used the in same sentence together. You can PREPARE. Preparing means carrying the right spare parts, having your finances together, charting weather, having the right charts. But after that, planning your cruise is like nailing jello to a tree. Just exhale, point your boat in a general direction and learn to go with the flow. No matter how much you plan, it will NOT go the way you planned it. If you have a need to plan something, plan little things you can control, like meals or family celebrations.

    1. I’m coming around to that fact… 🙂 Thanks so much for your thoughts… We know there will be so much to adjust to on the boat. Trying to prepare as much as we can by reading, learning, and “preparing” (not planning) – hehe.
